About Kara Nichols
![]() Four was a good year for me. |
I was raised in Southern California, although I wasn't the typical surfer girl -- instead I spent my childhood holding pretend weddings for my dog Misty in an attempt to be like Punky Brewster, coloring outside of the lines, playing house with my cabbage patch dolls and drawing on my bedroom walls.
In Jr. High I wrote a ton of poetry, read a million books (slight exaggeration) learned how to play the guitar, and took up painting.
I started out as a psychology major but switched to English after my psychology professor wrote on one of my papers -- "You should be a writer!" Perhaps it was said in passing but I took it to heart and decided to give being a professional writer a chance.
My poetry became a lot better during my college years thanks to the mentoring of Dr. Tennant and Pen & Chalice.
